Midea line set sizes

The right line set diameter for your Midea mini-split by capacity — plus the length limits and the difference between Midea's R-410A consumer line and its R-454B EVOX line. Prefer to size by run length too? Use the size calculator.

Midea line set size by capacity

Line set diameter is set by your system's capacity. Match your Midea unit's BTU rating to the liquid-and-suction pair below — these reflect the common DLCSRA consumer wall-mount sizes.

Midea system sizeLine set (liquid × suction)
9,000 BTU1/4" × 3/8"
12,000 BTU1/4" × 1/2"
18,000 BTU1/4" × 1/2"
24,000 BTU3/8" × 5/8"
36,000 BTU3/8" × 5/8"

These are the sizes for Midea's mainstream DLCSRA consumer wall-mounts. Midea's professional EVOX line (sold from 18,000 BTU and up) uses a larger 3/8" × 3/4" pairing instead, so an EVOX line set is not interchangeable with a DLCSRA one at the same capacity. Always confirm the diameters against your model's manual before buying.

Two Midea lines: DLCSRA consumer and EVOX professional

Midea sells two distinct North American ductless lines. The DLCSRA / DLCSRBH consumer wall-mounts (the units sold through retail and online) use R-410A. The EVOX professional line uses R-454B and steps up to a 3/4" suction line. They are not the same — confirm which line your unit belongs to before buying a line set, because the diameter, length limit, and refrigerant all differ.

Field-flared, not quick-connect

Midea mini-splits use standard field-flared line sets, not pre-charged quick-connect. The outdoor unit ships with a factory charge, but you still flare the copper ends and pull a vacuum before opening the service valves — work that typically needs a vacuum pump and EPA 608 certification. Shop standard line sets for a Midea install, or see pre-charged line sets if you want the no-vacuum route on a compatible system.

Midea line set length limits

Diameter is only half the spec. Your Midea system also limits how long the line set can run and how far the indoor and outdoor units can sit apart in height, and the two product lines differ. Plan your run to the figures below, then confirm the exact limits for your model in its installation manual.

Minimum line lengthMaximum line lengthMax vertical separationPre-charged for
9.8 ft (3 m)82–98 ft (EVOX to 246 ft)33–82 ft by capacity25 ft

On Midea's consumer DLCSRA line, the 9,000–12,000 BTU units allow about 82 ft of line with up to 33 ft of vertical separation, and the 18,000 BTU reaches about 98 ft with up to 66 ft of lift. Midea's professional EVOX line goes much further, up to about 246 ft on the largest models with up to 82 ft of lift. The factory charge covers about the first 25 ft; beyond that an HVAC pro adds about 0.16–0.32 oz per foot. Midea sets a minimum of about 9.8 ft.

How to find your Midea model's line set size

  • Identify the line and capacity. Note whether your unit is a DLCSRA / DLCSRBH consumer wall-mount or an EVOX professional unit — the line set sizes and limits differ between them.
  • Check the installation manual. It lists the exact liquid and suction diameters, the maximum line length, the vertical lift, the pre-charge distance, and the refrigerant for your model — the final word.

Common questions

What size line set does a Midea 12,000 BTU use?

A Midea DLCSRA 12,000 BTU uses a 1/4" liquid line with a 1/2" suction line; the 9,000 BTU steps down to a 3/8" suction line. Confirm against your model's installation manual.

What refrigerant do Midea mini-splits use?

Midea's consumer ductless line (DLCSRA, DLCSRBH) uses R-410A, while the professional EVOX line uses R-454B. Match your line set, tools, and any added charge to your unit's refrigerant.

What is the minimum line set length for a Midea mini-split?

Midea specifies a minimum line set length of about 9.8 feet (3 m) to limit noise and vibration. Keep your run at or above that and confirm the figure in your model's manual.

What is the maximum line set length for a Midea mini-split?

On Midea's consumer DLCSRA line, the 9,000–12,000 BTU units allow about 82 ft and the 18,000 BTU about 98 ft, with 33–66 ft of vertical separation. Midea's professional EVOX line reaches much further, up to about 246 ft on the largest models. The factory charge covers about the first 25 ft; beyond that an HVAC pro adds refrigerant. Confirm your unit's maximum in its manual.

This page provides general guidance on Midea mini-split line set sizing based on published Midea specifications. Exact line diameters vary by product line and model, and lengths, maximum line length, vertical lift, and refrigerant (R-410A or R-454B) differ by unit — always verify against your unit's official installation manual before purchasing or installing.
